Attendance

Lansdowne Primary School - Attendance Policy

School Starts at: 08:50am

Children need to be on the school playground before this time, they need to be in class promptly to collect their registration mark. Pupils who are late may seriously disrupt not only their education, but also that of others.

Attendance is very important !

There is a very clear link between very good attendance and how well your child will achieve in school.

How much school does your child miss?

If your child's percentage attendance is on average 80% then he/she will miss approximately:

1 day every week

6 days every half term

36 days every year

180 days in 5 years

(nearly 1 whole school year!)

Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time and every day.

Please note children should only be absent from school for genuine illness, please let the school office know when your child is absent.

If you have any difficulties regarding getting your child to school on time please feel free to discuss with our School Attendance Officer, Sharon Canter, on 02920383184 or call in.

Please make every effort to send your child to school and if they are unable to attend please let the school know by phone or letter.

Your child will receive a letter at the end of each half term with the attendance shown.

Our attendance target for the year is 94%.

Autumn attendance was 92.4%

The school offers many rewards for good attendance. Every week a certificate is given to the class with the best attendance in the Infants and Juniors.

  • Children with 100% attendance each term will be given a free pass to the Cardiff Ice House to go skating.

Children with over 96% attendance per term go into a draw to receive :

a free family meal at The Ivor Davies in Canton or

Shopping voucher from Asda  or

a Kindle.

The class with the best attendance for the term will receive a reward which in the past has included a free tour of Cardiff city stadium and a free fun session at The Gol centre

Did you Know?

  • 3 Days missed in a half term means less than 90% attendance.
  • 3 weeks missed per year in primary school is the same as missing a term and a half of primary education.
  • attendance of less than 90% makes it difficult for children to keep up with missed work.
  • research shows that pupil progress is badly affected if their attendance drops below 90%.
