Miss Fry Does A Sponsored Walk
I love baking cakes. A while ago a friend asked me to bake for a charity event and it was a charity I hadn't heard of so I wanted to investigate. This is how I discovered Ty Hapus. They are a charity based in wonderful centre in Barry. In this centre they offer support and advice for families affected by dementia - especially when it has affected someone relatively young (under 65). They support the whole family because it is an illness that affects the whole family and can make life a real struggle.
Ty Hapus offer daytime respite care for patients, run therapy sessions, social events and even have a café where families can met or patients find some company.
In May I decided I wanted to do more for them so I planned a sponsored walk. Not a big event. Just me walking to raise money for this great charity. My goal was to raise £500 by walking just over 40 miles from my home to Cardiff Bay. In half term I did this walk, leaving home at 5am and arriving (with 2 very sore feet) in Cardiff Bay just before 6 in the evening.
My goal was to raise £500 but people have been amazing with their giving and I have raised over £1400.
It was a long, tough day but really worth it.
